Eugen Brikcius / Sundial
In the summer of 1970 Eugen Brikcius realized his last exercise, if you want a happening or land-art event, the Sundial, for twenty years. The participants marked the shadow of a column erected in a meadow in an abandoned quarry near Roztoky at regular intervals throughout the day. The event had the character of a melancholic picnic - the company suspected that they were saying goodbye to happier times.
In the catalogue of the Gallery of Modern Art in Roudnice nad Labem you can find out how the idea of the Sundial was born in the detention cell in Konviktská Street or how a suitable place and tools for the exercise were found. Above all, we try to give you an aesthetic experience of the confrontation between the elements and the landscape.
